A Westchester County Police spokesman confirmed that shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 20, a man in his 70s was walking on Woods Road near the hospital when he attempted to cross in front of the traffic and was struck by a car, leaving him with a head injury.
The unidentified man, who is a resident of the Volunteers of America shelter on the Grasslands reservation was transported to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not immediately available on Tuesday morning.
Police said that the preliminary investigation determined that the driver, an employee at Westchester Medical Center, was not at fault. There was no indication of speeding and he tested negative for drugs and alcohol. It is believed that the elderly man - whose name was not released - stepped into the path of the car.
More information is expected to be released by County Police in the afternoon. Keep following Daily Voice for updates.
